Refund & Cancellation Policy
When you can cancel, what you get back, and how long it takes — for self-filing fees and Tax Expert orders.
1. Scope
This policy covers what you pay TaxCare — the self-filing fee and Tax Expert orders. It does not cover tax you pay to the Government through the payment link on TaxCare (a challan is a payment to the Income Tax Department, and any refund of it is made by the Department, not by us), nor a tax refund the Department owes you. TaxCare is a digital service; nothing is shipped.
2. Self-Filing Fees
You pay the self-filing fee only when you submit your return, and it is shown before you pay — so there is nothing to cancel beforehand, and no plan or subscription to end. Once your return has been filed with the Income Tax Department the service has been delivered, and the fee is not refundable, except where we filed it incorrectly because of an error on our side, in which case we will correct it at no charge or refund the fee. If you were charged and your return was not filed, you are refunded in full.
3. Tax Expert Orders
You may cancel a Tax Expert order from the order page. What you receive depends on how far the work has progressed:
- Before an expert is assigned — a full refund.
- After an expert is assigned and until you approve the work — a refund of what you paid less the engagement fee shown on the order (if any).
- After you have approved the work — no refund, because the return or reply has been prepared and is on its way.
- An additional fee you accepted is refunded together with the order it belongs to.
- If we cannot deliver the service — for example we cannot assign an expert — you are refunded in full.
4. Failed & Duplicate Payments
If money leaves your bank but the payment shows as failed, TaxCare confirms the status with the payment gateway and either completes your order or refunds you automatically — you do not need to ask. If you were charged twice for the same thing, or a payment was made for something that no longer exists, the extra amount is refunded automatically to the original payment method.
5. What Is Not Refundable
We can't refund:
- A self-filing fee once the return is filed with the Income Tax Department.
- A Tax Expert order after you approve the work.
- Tax, interest, penalty or fees paid to the Government.
- Any delay, refund amount or decision that rests with the Income Tax Department.
6. How & When You Are Refunded
Refunds go back to the original payment method — the card, UPI or bank account you used — and reach it in 5–7 working days after we approve them, depending on your bank. The Payments page shows each refund and its status, and the invoice stays on record as evidence of the original charge.
7. Coupons & Referral Rewards
You are refunded what you actually paid, after any discount. A coupon used on a refunded order is released so you can use it again while it remains valid. A referral discount is a discount, not cash or credit, and is not paid out on its own.
8. How to Request a Refund
For a Tax Expert order, cancel from the order page. For anything else, write to us from Contact Us with your order or payment reference, and we will reply within 24 hours. We review every request individually and tell you the outcome and the reason.
