TaxCare handles financial data, so security and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 are built into how the app works, not added on afterwards.

Stored in India
Your account, tax profile and documents are stored on servers in Mumbai.
Encrypted
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and sensitive fields such as your portal password are encrypted individually.
Consent you control
Consent is asked per purpose and you can withdraw it as easily as you gave it.
Your rights, in the app
Access to what we hold, correction, erasure and nominating someone to act for you are available in the app, not only by raising a request.
Devices you can see and end
A device stays signed in for up to a year without another OTP, and you can see every device and sign any of them out in Profile.
A record of significant actions
Significant user and admin actions are written to an audit log: who, what, when and from where.

Questions people ask
How long is my data kept?
Filed return records are kept for 6 years, as the law requires, and this overrides an erasure request until it ends. Other data is kept for up to 8 years. Automatic erasure at the end of those periods is being built.
Who do I write to with a complaint?
TaxCare publishes a Grievance Officer, who is also its Data Protection Officer. Write to grievance@taxcare.in.
