ITR filing for bank and insurance employees

Staff in financial services often have salary, a loan on special terms and some interest or commission on top. Each is reported differently and your AIS shows most of them.

In short

Salary with perquisites such as concessional loans, commission income and interest.

Your tax situation

  • Salary with perquisites

A loan at a lower rate than the market is a perquisite. Its value is added to salary and appears in your Form 16.

  • Commission income

An insurance agent's commission is business or professional income, and tax is usually deducted from it.

  • Interest income

Interest on savings and deposits is taxable. Banks report it in your AIS.

  • Your AIS is the cross-check

Whatever is reported against your PAN is in your AIS, so it is the best check on your return.

What to watch out for

  • Do not leave out interest

Interest you did not report but the bank did is the most common mismatch.

  • Commission is not salary

It cannot go in the salary section. It needs the business or profession form.

  • Dates

Salaried returns are due by 31-Jul-2026; with business or professional income, by 31-Aug-2026.

How TaxCare handles it

  1. AIS, Form 26AS and Form 168 checkedYour return is compared with what the department has on record, and differences are shown to you.
