Questions, answered

Which form do I file with capital gains?

Equity long-term gains up to ₹1,25,000 with no other gains can stay in ITR-1. Anything more usually means ITR-2 — or ITR-3 if you also have business income such as futures and options.

Do I pay tax on a small gain?

Long-term gains on listed equity are free up to ₹1,25,000 a year and taxed at 12.5% above that. Short-term equity gains are taxed at 20%.

I made a loss. Should I still file?

Yes — file by the due date, 31-Jul-2026, to carry the loss forward and set it off against future gains. A belated return loses most carry-forward.

I sold a flat or land.

Property gains are filed by a TaxCare Tax Expert, who works out the cost and any exemption. You can book one from the app.

Gains, losses and dividends — worked out for you.

Your first return with TaxCare gets 25% off. The fee follows your income: free up to ₹1,00,000, then from ₹49 — never more than ₹1,499.
