On this page
For the tax year 2026-27 (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027), the key dates are advance tax on 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March, filing opening on 01-Apr-2027, the main due date 31-Jul-2027, and the last date for a belated or revised-with-fee return at 31-Dec-2027. The CBDT can change any of them.
The dates are computed from TaxCare's rule set for the tax year 2026-27, which repeats the 2025-26 rules and is provisional. They have not been signed off against the Income-tax Act, 2025. Check for any CBDT circular before relying on a date.
During the tax year: advance tax
If your tax for the year is ₹10,000 or more after TDS, you pay it in instalments. The shares are cumulative.
By | Cumulative share of the year's tax |
|---|---|
15-Jun-2026 | 15% |
15-Sep-2026 | 45% |
15-Dec-2026 | 75% |
15-Mar-2027 | 100% |
Short or late advance tax brings interest of 1% a month: section 234B if you pay less than 90% of the assessed tax by the end of the year, and section 234C for each instalment (3 months of interest per instalment, 1 month for the March one). There is no interest for the June instalment if you have paid 12% by then, or for September if you have paid 36%.

- Belated return: a fee of ₹5,000, or ₹1,000 if total income is ₹5,00,000 or less, only if you were required to file. Interest of 1% a month on unpaid tax. No old regime in a belated return on TaxCare's rules.
- Revised return after 31 December: a fee of ₹5,000 (₹1,000 up to ₹5,00,000 of income).
- Updated return: additional tax of 25%, 50%, 60% or 70% of the tax and interest, depending on how many months have passed from the end of the relevant year (within 12, 24, 36 or 48 months). It cannot give a refund or report a loss.

How TaxCare helps
TaxCare tells you whether your return is on time, belated, revised or updated, and calculates the fee and interest for each from the rules above. It reminds you to e-verify, the day after filing and with 7, 2 and 1 days left, so a filed return does not lapse. See pricing, or book a Tax Expert for a deadline you have already missed.
